Amazing Amino Leucine is the MVP of aminos when it comes to building muscle and strength. It stimulates growth and is broken down in the body into numerous anabolic byproducts such as beta-hydroxy beta-meth-ylbutyrate and ketoisocaproate. New research is uncovering another metabolite of leucine that may have anabolic properties: alpha-HICA.
In one study, competitive wrestlers who took 1.5 grams of HICA for six weeks gained about 2 pounds of muscle despite severe and prolonged training that normally leads to weight loss. Subjects also reported significantly less muscle pain. Scientists in Finland had competitive soccer players take either 500 mg of HICA or a placebo three times per day for four weeks and lift weights twice a week, in addition to normal practice and games
